WELCOME TO JUNIOR SCHOOL

Redeemer Junior School provides the strongest start to the educational journey for our students. We are excited to have programs, facilities and opportunities that enrich the experience of the youngest members in our community, and we believe these foundations are an investment into an outstanding Prep to Year 12 experience for learners.
As a College providing an education for the whole child, we aim to develop the academic, the emotional and spiritual strengths of our children.

The Junior School consists of Three Home Group classes per year level. Students have a Home Group (or classroom teacher) for the year, but also have the added advantage of working with other teachers within the year level cohort. Home Group teachers, Specialist teachers, Academic Advancement teachers and Teacher Assistants work together as a team to ensure that students are supported, challenged and extended in all aspects of school life.

EARLY YEARS (PREP - YEAR 1)

At Redeemer, our Prep and Year 1 learning community offers a nurturing and supportive environment that marks the perfect start to every child’s educational journey. Here, students are at the heart of everything we do, with a strong emphasis on fostering creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our early years program focuses on literacy development, including letter-sound relationships, interactive skills, and early writing, which helps to build fluency and confidence in communication. The rich environment of words and literature offers endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Each Prep class benefits from a full-time Teacher Assistant, ensuring high-quality teaching and providing additional support for students as they transition into formal schooling. This also allows for personalised pastoral care.

In addition to core subjects, our students enjoy specialist lessons in Mandarin, Music, and Health and Physical Education (HPE), offering diverse opportunities for learning, play, and performance.

Our outdoor space further enriches the learning experience, providing students with the chance to engage with nature and develop their creativity in a hands-on, active environment.

Our approach to early years education is child-centred, curiosity-driven, and encourages creativity through provocations and student-led learning. This approach fosters collaboration, builds confidence, and inspires students to take risks as they embark on their educational journey.

Enveloped within the rich fabric of an Anglican faith-based environment, Riverleigh instills the values of inclusivity and care, fostering a sense of belonging and warmth that elevates our students' experiences.

PRIMARY YEARS (YEARS 2 - 6)

Students in Years 2 to 6 at Redeemer enjoy a vibrant and expansive Junior School campus, which includes a variety of playgrounds such as the Tree Tops Playground, outdoor basketball courts, an oval, a tranquil basin area surrounded by trees, and a Multi-Purpose Centre for indoor activities.

The fully air-conditioned classrooms offer a comfortable, flexible learning environment that supports both individual and collaborative learning approaches.

Our learning spaces are designed to stimulate and care for students, helping them build on their literacy and numeracy skills developed in the early years, while also encouraging critical thinking and teamwork. Project-Based Learning (PBL) is at the heart of our teaching, fostering inquiry, deeper understanding, and meaningful connections to ensure academic growth. Our teachers continuously seek authentic learning experiences that link students to the world around them.

Through cross-campus learning and off-campus excursions, students gain valuable real-world experiences, gradually developing independence and a sense of active participation in society.

Additionally, we offer a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, engaging in various teams, ensembles, choirs, and performance groups to further enhance their skills and interests.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION (YEARS 3 - 6)

Outdoor Education is a fundamental aspect of Redeemer’s dedication to the personal growth and development of our students, providing unique and often life-changing opportunities. The program is designed to help students from Years 3 to 11 build self-confidence, self-respect, responsibility, and physical fitness, while also promoting an understanding of mental health and well-being. It fosters leadership, teamwork, and an appreciation of God’s creation, encouraging students to recognise the role humans play in caring for the environment and ensuring its future.

By linking the classroom curriculum to outdoor experiences, the program allows students to learn through practical engagement, reflection, and discussion. Students are also challenged to adopt environmentally sustainable practices and develop important personal and social competencies. Throughout the program, they engage in activities that require creativity, organisation, and resourcefulness, all while building resilience and the skills necessary to live harmoniously and sustainably in a rapidly changing world.
